Who’d have thought that trains and erotic fiction made for naughty bedfellows, never mind the basis for a whole series of British erotic fiction stories? Read on to understand the concept more and understand why it truly rocks.
So yes, trains and smut: who’d have thought someone – me – would write a series of saucy short stories that combines the two and really puts British erotic fiction on the map? Well, there’s method to it, for sure.
At first glance, given the imagery that’s very much travel and train related, you’d be forgiven for thinking that I’m a big huge train addict or enthusiast. Yes, they have a place in my heart for the memories they’ve helped create and what they enable, but there had to be more than that.
And there is.
Erotic fiction tends to focus on glamorous locales: bustling metropolitan areas like London and other major cities around the world. It’s understandable too. There’s a dynamism, the hustle and bustle, the relative anonymity and the ability to get up to mischief relatively unimpeded – largely due to everyone else getting up to no good themselves or so interested in themselves that they’ve no time to notice anyone else indulging in naughtiness.
But this does paint a rather unrealistic viewpoint of things. Are we to think that the only naughtiness occurs within the largest cities in the world? That would be pretty daft. Besides, you only have to look on social media to see that there’s naughtiness throughout the counties. Think the only swingers clubs are in London, for instance? Yeah right.
London has a special place in my heart, it’s true, but there’s so much else to Britain than one huge city. There are so many places around the country that are wonderful in so many different ways from one another. I’ve visited a fair few but barely scraped the surface. And so I wanted to celebrate sexiness the length and breadth of my country; scintillating sexcapades occurring in little villages as well as regional towns and bigger cities. When I refer to British erotic fiction, I mean it. Not ‘London erotic fiction’ but British, through and through from Wick to Weymouth and everywhere inbetween.
But there needed to be more.
Anyone can write erotic fiction set in Britain – and many do. Some writers may well venture outside a London setting. But how many are linking the stories from such potentially diverse locations and landscapes together? Well, that’s what definitely splits the herd.
I wanted something that could connect such stories (and locations) together. So how do you link all these different villages, towns and cities across the land? Well, what links already exist? Ah yes…… the railway network.
And while the characters are the stars of the stories, there’s going to be a very strong supporting cast: the places themselves, and their respective sights, sounds and smells (okay perhaps not, unless there’s a brewery!) that add something different, a touch more colour to the bland, erotic short stories churned out ten-a-penny over the years.
I also find it pretty cool that someone – maybe you – could be embarking on a long journey or just your local commute to work, and passing the time by reading saucy stories set in the very places you’re travelling to, or whizzing through enroute to your final destination. You’ve got to admit, that sounds pretty hot, right?
Add in a compelling – and suitably scintillating – story arc bringing everything together, and there’s something unique coming your way…
